Along the Front Range
|
| Spring has arrived! Paint is drying faster and the sun is out later in the day! Lots of folks along the Front Range have been working very hard to build some great events. Sponsors are joining up for Spring Model Daze at Bonnie Brae in Denver and Centenial's Pikes Peak Model Expo in Pueblo. Most of the clubs have had great attendance with new faces at the meetings. There have been well attended Make-N-Takes, too. Be part of the fun! Go to a club meeting. Attend an open build. I get to see all kinds of things that other modelers bring. Volunteer to be part of the teams that will make all these events happen. Bring a model to show at a meeting or a contest. Heaven knows you will be needed and appreciated. This is your community! Help make it strong. Be part of the strength. Tom Grossman

CSprgs: News from Centennial IPMS
For quite some time now, Centennial IPMS has been a hot spot of modeling activity in Colorado Springs. Its an active group sporting new members and interesting programs. The last meeting had great attendance on the roster and the contest tables. That momentum continues to build! Peg Mesco has stepped up to the plate to take over the position of Contest Coordinator for the chapter. Peg will also be workng to build the Monthly Contest Program initiated by President Dave Kagarise. Kudos also to Peg for stepping in during the weeks leading up to Pikes Peak Model Expo when the pressure on the club's exec committiee is higher than ever! The last Monthly Contest theme was "Lights Action Camera". Any subject linked to movies or TV was welcomed. with a little immagination and some research, there was lots of room to work. There were also lots of entries. Twenty three to be exact! The winners were selected by a secret ballot vote of those in attendance. Tied for first place was Rob Schmitt's Creature from Creature from the Black Lagoon and Dekker Zimmerman's Alien Attacker from Independence Day. Taking second was The Homer from The Simpsons by Tom Grossman and a nice buildup of the Polar Lights Godzilla by Rob Schmitt. In third was the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazard built by C/IPMS Pres Dave Kagarise. The Juniors also had a good showing. First place went to Nicholas Kagarise for his PT Cruiser, 2nd place ties were Willie Rusello for his Titanic and Brittany Kagarise for an FA-18, and third place went to Jonas Kagarise for his AirCraft Carrier. Other great entries included a Walker Bulldog in German markings from a particular episode of the 60's TV Series Combat built by Roger Cole. The entry featured a Red Buttons figure at the helm of the tank, just like in the episode! Check at the Centennial website for pictures from the contest. Starting with the March meeting, the contest will also allow any model not related to the theme to be displayed. It won't be part of the contest but it can be out for all to see. The theme for March is Tamiya. All models are welcome and your favorite Tamiya builds can compete in the contest and earn points for the Modeler of the Year. Centennial is striving to become the club with somethig for everyone! Kudos to Dave Kagarise and the eboard! Under the leadership of PPMX Committee Chair and SuperMember Dekker Zimmerman, plans for the Pikes Peak Model Expo continue to crystalize at a break neck pace. The list of sponsors for the Pikes Peak Model Expo continues to grow. Recent additions include IPMS/Phoenix Craig Hewitt Chapter with Best SciFi/Real Space and Denver-based Colorado Modeling Militia with "The Best Example of Something We Like" on the special Awards list. The industry is also being represented by new sponsors MRC and Trumpeter. This is building to be the best show of the century for Centennial. Don't be left out!! Register today! Volunteer today to be part of the team!
