Vulture

Armorcast Resin Kit

25 mm

January 20, 2001

Iwata HP Series Airbrushes     Spectrum 2000 Color Changer
This is one of two large gaming pieces made by ArmorCast. It is designed for use with 25 mm tabletop games.

Although I'm not a gamer, the kit really caught my eye. ArmorCast did an excellent job of designing, casting and packaging the Vulture. The kit could be assembled into a standing position straight out of the box. There were a few seam lines to smooth and bubbles to fill but these seemed less than usual.
One really nice feature of the kit was the design of the joints. The "out of the box" pose is nice but unremarkable. The ArmorCast guys accounted for this and built the joints with stops in them. Removing the stops allowed each joint to be repositioned. You can see the wedge shaped stop in the wrist and the long stop along the shoulder.
I took full advantage of this and repositioned mine so it can be peaking around an obstacle and firing at the targets. I had something like a street scene in mind with the Vulture looking around a corner and nailing an unsuspecting foe down the street. This also involved changing one of the fixed elbow joints.
The paint job I did will be described in my model painting chapter in "The Ultimate Airbrush Book" to be released this fall by Watson-Guptill Publishers. Weathering was done with an airbrush and the dust on the feet is pastel.
