Passenger Rocket

Kitbash completed for the

Modelers in Action Airliner Challenge

The kit I started with was the reissue of a Great 50's spaceship kit.

The box contained lots of neato parts. The design allowed for moving parts such as the landing gear on the bottom fuselage. Its a wonderful blast from the past. The instructions have photos instead of diagrams and are VERY well done. They include several views of the finished vehicle. There's even a picture on the cover of an excited young man being a completed rocket by the 50's space travel authority, Willy Ley.

Wanting to keep the scifi theme in my build-ups for the club, I decided to make this kit into a slightly more modern version of its classic spaceline self for our club's Airliner Challenge. I glued the landing gear doors into the fuselage and filled them in. I also moved the jet engines from the bottom fuselage to the top. To top off the airliner look, I found some workable decals in the after market stuff at Hobby Town. I had to piece them together in places.
